What goes wrong on Wiveliscombe slopes
The classic failure here is a low garden wall built straight onto soil with no footing and no drainage behind it. Water builds up in the bank, has nowhere to escape, and the pressure pushes the wall outwards. First it bulges, then the mortar cracks, then a wet winter finishes it.
