Patios, Driveways & New-BuildGarden Landscaping in Cullompton
Cullompton has grown fast, and a lot of its newest gardens are turf laid straight over compacted builder's spoil. We dig out, drain and rebuild so the garden works instead of holding water.

Serving Cullompton
Landscaping for Cullompton's old town and new estates
Cullompton is about thirteen miles from Wellington, a straight run down the M5 to junction 28, typically twenty minutes.
Cullompton is two towns in one. There is the historic centre around Fore Street with its old cob, brick and rendered buildings and long narrow burgage-plot gardens, and then there are the large modern estates that have expanded the town outwards over recent decades. The landscaping problems in each are completely different.
In the older part, gardens are long, narrow and often reached only through the house or a shared passage, with settled levels and tired hard surfaces. On the estates, plots are smaller and more regular but come with a specific and very common problem: thin turf rolled over compacted subsoil left by the housebuilder, with no real drainage and no usable hard surface beyond a token slab area outside the back door.
The jobs we are asked for most in Cullompton are patios with correct falls and drainage, block paving and gravel driveways, fencing that upgrades builder-grade panels, turfing done on properly prepared ground, and complete first-time garden builds for people who have just moved into a new house.

Why Cullompton homeowners choose us
New-build gardens are where corner-cutting is easiest to hide and hardest to live with. Turf laid on compacted subsoil looks fine for one summer, then waterlogs; a patio bedded on sand over the same ground settles unevenly within two winters. Our approach on those jobs is unglamorous: dig out what the housebuilder left, get drainage in, compact a proper base, then build. It is why our quotes itemise excavation separately, that is the part other quotes quietly omit.
James has six years in landscaping, backed by his dad's thirty-plus years in carpentry, joinery and building, with a family team of up to four on site. You get the same people from the quote to the final sweep-down.
We fix the ground first
Compacted builder's subsoil is dug out and drained rather than covered over with turf and hope.
Driveways done properly
Block paving and gravel on a dug-out, compacted base. We do not offer resin, and we will say so rather than sell you something we do not do.
Nine five-star reviews
Somerset and Mid Devon homeowners, all five stars, consistently citing timekeeping, communication and tidiness.
Priced line by line
Excavation, base, materials and labour separated out, with 50% at the start and the balance on completion.
Local conditions
Cullompton ground conditions and common issues
Much of the land around Cullompton is heavy clay in the Culm valley, which drains slowly at the best of times. When a housebuilder then runs plant over it for eighteen months and rolls turf across the result, you get a garden that sits wet from November to March. Aerating the lawn will not fix that; the compaction and the missing drainage route are the problem.
In the older parts of town, the issues are different: long narrow plots with no vehicle access, patios that have dropped towards the house, and boundaries shared with several neighbours where responsibility is unclear. We work all of that out at the site visit - who owns which fence line, where materials can be delivered, how far things have to be barrowed - before putting a price on paper.
Compacted new-build subsoil
The single most common cause of failing lawns and settling patios on Cullompton estates. It has to come out.
Culm valley clay
Slow-draining ground means falls, drainage runs and proper sub-bases are essential rather than optional extras.
Builder-grade boundaries
Thin panels and shallow posts installed at handover often fail early. Feather edge on proper posts is the usual upgrade.
Narrow historic plots
Old-town gardens with passage-only access mean longer barrow runs and careful spoil management, priced honestly.

Cullompton FAQs
Questions we get asked about working in Cullompton
Do you work in Cullompton?+
Yes, regularly. It is about thirteen miles from our Wellington base, straight down the M5 to junction 28.
How fast can you get to Cullompton?+
Around twenty minutes. Site visits are typically booked within a week, and the itemised written quote follows soon after.
My new-build lawn is always waterlogged. Can you sort it?+
Usually. The cause is almost always compacted subsoil left by the developer plus no drainage route. The fix is digging out, improving the ground and creating somewhere for water to go, then laying turf on prepared soil.
What does a patio cost in Cullompton?+
Guide price is £130 to £180 per square metre. On new-build plots there is usually extra excavation, which is priced as its own line so you can see it.
Do you install driveways?+
Yes, block paving and gravel driveways built on a properly prepared base. We do not offer resin driveways.
Can you replace the builder's fencing?+
Yes. 6ft feather edge is around £100 per metre as a guide, set on posts fixed to last rather than the lightweight panels usually installed at handover.
Can you landscape a brand-new garden from bare ground?+
That is a large part of what we do here, levels, drainage, patio, paths, boundaries, beds and lawn planned and built as one scheme.
Do you take on commercial work in Cullompton?+
Not currently. We work with private homeowners.
How do I get a quote?+
Call James on 07340 000463 between 8am and 8pm Monday to Saturday or send the form. The visit and the quote are both free.
