Chard-specific problems worth planning for
At around 400 feet above sea level on an exposed ridge, Chard gets more wind and more driven rain than the lower Tone valley towns. That does two things to a garden. First, it flattens under-built fencing, usually at the post rather than the panel. Second, it drives rain horizontally against walls and boundaries, so timber that has not been detailed to shed water rots from the top down.
Ground around Chard varies from heavy clay to chert and limestone, sometimes both within a single garden. That matters for excavation: a quote that assumes easy digging can double in labour when the digger hits rock a foot down. We look for that at the site visit and set out the excavation cost as a separate line so it is visible rather than hidden.
Wind exposure
Post depth, spacing and fixings matter far more here than the look of the panel. Under-built fencing in Chard does not last.
Driven rain on timber
Capping, gravel boards and correct board overlap keep water off the end grain, which is where timber fails first.
Rock and mixed ground
Chert and limestone under thin soil slows excavation. We check before quoting so the price does not move mid-job.

Contract and start date
Both parties sign a written contract with the scope and price on it. 50% is payable at the start to cover materials, and the balance on completion. Then we book you a start date and keep to it.

Build, snag and clear down
A team of up to four works on site until the job is done. We walk the finished work with you, sort any snags there and then, and leave the site swept and cleared.
