The common threads in this town are clay, run-off from the Blackdown Hills and a lot of houses that were never given a proper hard surface to start with. What goes wrong in Wellington gardens
Wellington sits at the foot of the Blackdown Hills, and a lot of the town's rainfall arrives from higher ground rather than falling straight down onto your lawn. Add heavy clay subsoil and you get gardens that hold water for days after a wet week. A patio laid flat onto that ground, without a compacted sub-base and a fall away from the house, becomes a slow-moving puddle within a winter or two.
The second recurring problem is fencing. Wellington gets consistent south-westerly wind funnelled along the Tone valley, and cheap panels bolted into concrete spurs simply do not survive it. Feather edge boarding fixed onto proper posts costs more on day one and still works after a decade of gales.
Clay that will not drain
Heavy clay under a thin layer of topsoil holds water. Patios and lawns need dug-out, compacted bases and somewhere for water to actually go.
Run-off from the Blackdowns
Gardens on the south side of town take surface water from higher ground. We plan falls, channel drains and soakaways around that, not against it.
Terraced access
Central Wellington terraces often have no side gate. Everything is barrowed through the house or craned over, and that has to be in the quote from the start.
New-build subsoil
Estate gardens are frequently turfed over compacted builder's spoil. Turf and patios laid on that fail early unless the ground is properly dug out first.

Both parties sign a written contract with the scope and price on it. 50% is payable at the start to cover materials, and the balance on completion. Then we book you a start date and keep to it.

Build, snag and clear down
A team of up to four works on site until the job is done. We walk the finished work with you, sort any snags there and then, and leave the site swept and cleared.
