About Us
A family team in Wellington
building gardens that still
look right in ten years
James Spiller and his family lay patios, driveways, fencing and full garden schemes across Somerset and Mid Devon, quoted in writing, built by the same hands that priced it, and finished with the site left immaculate.
Our Story
Who we help, and what we build
Harbour Grove Landscaping works almost entirely for homeowners. The typical customer has a garden that has stopped working for them, a cracked or sunken patio, a fence that has given up, an overgrown corner that swallows the whole weekend, or a level change nobody has ever dealt with properly. They want it fixed once, by people who turn up when they say they will.
Patios and paving are our specialty. That is where the detail shows: the depth of the dig, the compaction, the falls, the edge restraint, the pointing. Around that we build driveways, fencing, retaining walls, turfing, decking and sleeper work, groundworks, and full garden transformations where all of those elements have to meet each other neatly. Garden rooms are a growing part of the business, taken from groundworks through to insulation and electrics.
James has six years in landscaping. Behind him sits more than thirty years of family experience in carpentry, joinery and building, which is why the timber detailing on a deck, a sleeper bed or a garden room tends to be sharper than you would expect from a landscaping outfit. There are four of us. That is deliberate: it is small enough that James is on every site, and big enough to keep a job moving instead of stretching it over months.
We are based at 14 Lower Westford, Wellington, and work across Somerset and Mid Devon: Taunton, Tiverton, Chard, Somerton, Ilminster, Wiveliscombe, Milverton, Cullompton, Sampford Peverell, Bishops Lydeard and Langport among them. We do not currently take on commercial work; private gardens are where the attention to detail counts for most.
Mission & Standards
We would rather lose a job than build one badly
The base decides the finish
Most patio and driveway failures are dug too shallow or compacted badly. We excavate to the depth the ground actually needs, compact in layers, and set falls so water runs away from the house instead of pooling on the slabs.
One team, start to finish
The same four people who quote your job are the people on site. Nothing is handed to a subcontractor mid-build, so there is no gap between what was agreed and what gets laid. The one exception is large stone walling, which goes to a mason we have worked with for years.
Everything in writing
Every job is quoted element by element and confirmed in a written contract signed by both sides, so the scope and price are settled before a spade goes in the ground.
The site is left as we found it
Skips, spoil, offcuts and dust are our problem, not yours. Customers keep telling us they would never know we had been there, and that is the standard we work to every day.
We do not publish accreditation badges or guarantee claims we cannot yet evidence. What we can put in front of you is the written contract, the itemised quote, and the customers who have already had the work done, read them on our reviews page.

How quickly we respond
Calls are answered between 8am and 8pm, Monday to Saturday. Site visits are free, and quotes are usually with you inside a week, a little longer on bigger schemes while we wait on supplier pricing.
Tell us what the garden needs; we will come and look at it
Free site visit, itemised written quote, no pressure and no sales script. You will speak to James, not a call centre.
